4th years major projects

Saw the 4th years final presentations today, impressive CRAAAZYYY awesome hectic stuff, some of the projects look like 2 years worth of work when in actual fact, they were less than a year's worth of work - research, model-making, user-testing, renderings, tech-drawings, costing, marketing etc etc etc, all tied together!! Don't know how they are able to do that to such a high standard! Lots of technology was included in the designs, some of them sounded like they had an extensive background in electrical engineering or something. I wonder how many of them took that electrical engineering elective, if any at all. I definetely have a looooooong way to go..need to practice =.="

Was definitely good for us to watch the presentations, although I was nervous for them when they were getting interrogated, especially when some of the questions threw the student off course and answers were like hmmm..then i was sweating buckets.. but I think for sure some of the designs will be noticed by professionals in the upcoming exhibition, and will hopefully be entered in the upcomingDyson Awards! more "presos" tmw...

Una Burke

SO ODD! BUT SO COOL! Looks like she is mummified, all bandaged up, or like a cocoon with another skin, trying to evolve and crawl out. It's about the cause, effect and healing stages of human trauma. It's made out of leather and studs.

would be funny trying to get into- would have to pin every single strip together.

My knockbox has arrived in the mail! and i like the packaging and graphics. i nearly always like packaging when they print directly onto the brown paper box. eco. includes instructions on how to use collected coffee grinds as natural fertilizer for the garden.

A tattoo artist and illustrator laser cuts dollar bills and pieces them together to create beautiful reliefs. I wonder how many dollar bills make up each piece...

Would ave thought lasercutting this intricately would catch fire or burn up at least, maybe he had to mask it or something...Must have been so fiddly doing this one, probably would have torn HEAPS..but well worth it!! Just read somewhere that this one is 100 deep stacks of 1 dollar bills // w00t!

Banana leaf packaging!!

Biodegradable and disposable..user tears banana leaf along its natural perforation to open it. Die-cut to the right shape and pinned together to hold in place.

8 litre applicator

Nike Sportswear Store NYC
8 Litre Applicator in Black
8 litres of paint chucked in a tank, with easy application for graffiti peoples. Pretty genius. i doubt they changed the design of the fire extinguisher at all, just took an existing design, slapped their name on it and chucked some paint in - Voila!

The yellow gives way more life to an unnoticed, drab spot, probably at the back of a factory or something, like a splash of sunlight has hit it suddenly

Can't wait to get back into painting in the holidays!!! maybe on a slightly smaller scale though...

Research

Most of the recipes go like this, although some boil the rice instead of fry it in the first step. And sometimes they use pandan leaves instead of bamboo leaves

The Bak Chang Recipe Site

Instructions

1. Drain the rice. In a wok, heat up some oil and add in the garlic, stir fry till fragrant. Add in the rice and 3 tbsp of dark soya sauce and 1/2 tsp of salt. Stir fry till fragrant. Remove and set aside.

2. Using the same wok (don’t wash it), stir fry the pork. Add 2 tbsp dark soya sauce, pepper and 1 tbsp five spice powder. Add some water and let simmer for about 10 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.

3. Using a clean wok, stir fry the dried shrimps (without oil) till fragrant. Then set aside. Repeat with the mushrooms.

4. Now, you are ready to wrap the ingredients into the bamboo leaves. Fold two bamboo leaves into a cone. Scoop a tbsp of rice into the cone, add 2 -3 shrimps, half of the salted egg yolk, one chestnut, a quarter of the mushroom (or half). Top it with another tbsp of rice. Fold the leaves down and wrap it around. Secure it with hemp string tightly.

5. Cook the dumplings traditionally over coal fire in a large pot of boiling water for about 2 hours (remembering to turn the dumplings after the first hour to make sure all of it are evenly cooked). Alternatively, you can use the pressure cooker to cook it for 45 minutes. You will have to test one to make sure it is really cooked before removing the rest from the heat.
