I went to "Babies Galore", Coles and some other places to get info on what's out there on milk powder dispensers and how it works and took note of the forms and portions and all that good stuff. A couple photos taken:

This is a milk powder dispenser that has another container inside for you to put food in. It has no portion control. basically a container with a hole at the top.

This is pretty awesome design:

Take the lid off, fill each section with the right amount. Close lid. open the tube to the red thing when it is feeding time to tip contents in.

Feeding Guide

1. Boil water 5 mins. Allow to cool.
2. Fill enclosed scoop with S26 original. Level off with a knife
3. 1 scoop/60ml of water
4. Cap bottle, shake. Test temperature on wrist.
5. Discard unfinished feeds

These lights are used all over Westfield Chatswood

I like the contrast between the lit and unlit surface. Each star is an individual piece, with the corners all connected to each other. smaller pieces at the top and bottom and gradually larger pieces in the middle. Can't see properly, but I'm guessing they are held together by pop rivets as well....anyone know the designer? Looks like what we saw at Saturday in Design, except many many individual pieces as opposed to thin long pieces:

Concept Boards

Food Masher
If the father is out of the house and wants to give the baby fresh food (eg. overly boiled carrots and banana) then he can put it in here and mash it. It's fresher if the food is mashed just before feeding, as opposed to mashed and prepared before leaving the house.

Milk Powder Formula Dispenser
As milk formula is fresher when prepared just before a feeding, people have to pre-measure the formula powder into tiny separate containers. My design is convenient because they just need to load up this container, and when needed, turn the dispensing part to release one scoop.

Attachable Clock
This clock is for when the father is jogging or cooking or something. It can be clipped or attached somewhere so that he does not have to wear a watch. It helps to keep him organised and on time, as stated in the Design Brief.

A snippet of some initial Sketches

Alert Nappies No more wondering if your kid has given in to natures urges.

This is a very simple idea and would not be to cost prohibitive. You would have a simple sensor in the lining of the nappies that would react to moisture associated with the expulsion of bodily waste. When your baby dropped his guts the sensor would go off and start to play a musical tune. The tune mechanism would be much like the kind of thing you have in musical cards. Also on the plus side the nice musical tune would keep the baby from immediately bursting into tears and give you a chance to change the nappy unimpeded.

I also thought about an adult version for the heavy drinker. A subject close to my heart. But I wasn’t sure if I would want to know whether I had lost control or not. For sure, I wouldn’t want everyone around me to know either:
